challenge
Elliott Tool Technologies, a leading tube tool manufacturer and supplier, was interested in videos featuring 3D animation for some of the company’s flagship products, including The Monster Hawk, a hydraulically-driven assisted tube rolling system. This was ruef design’s second group of projects with Elliott.
The project financing was assisted by a grant from FASTLANE, a program of the University of Dayton Research Institute, West Central Ohio’s Manufacturing Extension Partnership.
process
The Monster Hawk and other tube tools the company produces are usually used in less-than-photogenic manufacturing environments. Shooting a brand new Monster Hawk on a white set and backdrop allowed the product to shine. 3D animation is the perfect way to highlight a products best features and internal workings.
To create the Monster Hawk in 3D, ruef Design was given a very small portion of the original CAD model; the rest was modeled purely from photographic reference.
results
The project expanded to include not just product video, but three—all of which were translated into Spanish to reach a broader audience, resulting in a total of six final videos for the Elliott website and social media channels including YouTube, where the videos have already racked up hundreds of views and counting.
Each video featured a professional voice-over and high-end stock music.
